Perrigo purchases Nestlé's Gateway infant formula plant

Perrigo purchases Nestle's Gateway infant formula plan

Perrigo has announced it is making a $170 million strategic investment to expand and strengthen its U.S. infant formula manufacturing by bolstering capacity and increasing access to safe, affordable formula for infants, parents and caregivers. As part of this strategic investment, Perrigo has purchased Nestlé's Gateway infant formula plant in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, along with the U.S. and Canadian rights to the Gerber® Good Start® and Good Start® infant formula brands.

  • Perrigo has acquired Nestlé's Gateway Eau Claire, Wisconsin, plant, along with the U.S. and Canadian rights to the Good Start® infant formula brand. Perrigo will operate the Good Start® infant formula brand in the United States and Canada.
  • Acquiring the Wisconsin plant makes strategic sense for Perrigo given our long history and expertise in running highly regulated infant formula facilities. We look forward to integrating the new facility in 2023 and having additional capacity beginning in 2024.
  • Perrigo will immediately invest $60 million in the Wisconsin plant to expand its 29 million pound per year production capacity by seven million pounds, or approximately 100 million more feedings per year, within 18 months, adding a total of 36 million pounds of capacity to Perrigo.
  • These investments are in addition to the approximately $20 million Perrigo invests each year in its existing plants in Vermont and Ohio.
  • The expanded capacity will increase access to safe, and affordable infant formula and help mitigate future shortages. These investments will also enable Perrigo to more effectively compete through increased capacity to produce additional “value-priced” formula for our store brand customers.
  • These new investments are another example of Perrigo's commitment to quality, safety, systems, people and capacity and build upon the $110 million-plus infant formula investments made over the last four years which has allowed the company to safely run its current facilities 24 hours a day, seven days a week in response to the current formula shortage crisis.
  • Nestlé will continue to fulfil its existing Women Infants and Children (WIC) contracts to ensure that there is uninterrupted supply, with Perrigo supplying product through the Gateway factory.
  • All inquiries related to Good Start and WIC can be directed to the Parent Resource Center 24/7 at 1-800-4-GERBER or visit Gerber.com.

We look forward to our expanded capacity increasing access to safe, and affordable infant formula and helping mitigate future shortages.
